[Oh, well, if that didn't make the whole thing ten times more uncomfortable. Waking up in the bed of a man she didn't remember meeting or knowing exactly what happened last night was terrible in it's own way. Waking up in the bed of a strange man that was married was much worse.

Danute gets up to dress and leave before his wife came in and then stops. She lifts her own hand up and mentally rewinds what he just said]

This wasn't here either.

Oh, dear. [Leo runs a hand through his hair anxiously, and looks around. He touches his knees and rubs his beard. Oh dear.]

I know this is almost...impossible to imagine, but. Did we get married?

I was not married before. [She thinks on it for a minute. Memories from the last night were still jumbled. Wouldn't they deny people who were obviously impaired from getting married?]

Or we bought matching gold wedding bands for some reason.

Neither was I. [Leo looks down at his hand; he turns the golden band on his ring finger.] Hm, maybe. Isn't there some sort of procedure? Licenses, certificates, witnesses...that sort of thing...? Maybe there's proof either way?

[Where are his clothes? He's only in his boxers...but his jeans are over the chair and, self consciously, he gets out of bed and reaches for them.] Um, did we...[Probably not...if he was so out of his head he couldn't remember getting married.] Never mind, [he starts rooting through the pockets of his jeans for any sort of documentation.]

I would think they would deny it to people who were clearly impaired. [She slides out of bed to find her clothes, not overly concerned with the fact she had stripped down to a bra and panties before getting in bed. It covered the important bits.

Her jeans were folded neatly on a different chair, along with her jacket and purse. She picks up the purse and starts to go through it for any other indications of marriage]

[Leo turns around and his immediate reaction is a] Whoa! [His brain doesn't connect to his mouth fast enough to stall it and he turns around quickly, going red.] Let's just both get dressed...then look for our things.

[Hm? Danute stares at him for a moment, and then realizes what he's referring to.

With a nod, she gives up looking through her purse and dresses in the jeans and shirt she remembered wearing yesterday. That was a good sign - if she remembered that, maybe she'd remember whether or not she got married.]

[Before he looks for the certificate anymore, he's going to put on his clothes. Right. Clothes. Face red enough to match his hair, he attempts to stare at the ground as he pulls on his jeans and his t-shirt, feeling like an idiot.]

Umm, not yet. Keep looking. [Keep...not looking at him.]

Okay. [Now dressed, Danute returns to looking for a marriage certificate or anything that would indicate what had happened.

No marriage certificate in her purse, but there was the reason she was celebrating. Her doctorate was now official, and she was taking advantage of the moment of elation before the realities of finding a job, respect, and paying off the money come into play.

Why would that have led her to getting married?]

Nothing in my purse.

Okay, [He checks once more, just to make sure she's not actually still nearly naked behind him then turns.] There's nothing in my jeans pockets.

[He sits back down on the bed and rubs his head.] Maybe it's a thing...a thing they post? Maybe they'll send it to us. We'll get it in the post. That sort of thing.

I'm not sure. [Leo folds his hands together between his knees and looks down at the carpet. How does he wake up married to a knock-out? How does he forget about it?]

Leonard Duncan. [What else is there to say? Oh...what he does. Can a barista really support a wife or family? Now he's feeling stupid...] I'm um, [but it's really difficult to tell the truth about having a mcjob to someone so stunning.] I'm a musician.

A musician? What sort of music?

[She sits down on the bed and thinks. A gold wedding band and waking up in the bed of a strange man with no other paperwork that either can tell and vague memories of the night before.

What was in the area that could marry people? Maybe they could go there ... and at least find out.

Oh, um, [he points at his guitar.] Folk, mostly. Laura Marling, The National, That sort of thing. [He looks up at her, then down quickly again, suddenly nervous.] What do you do?

[Please do something good. Something...they can live off of if they're married. Oh God. What if they're truly married? No take-backs? Of course there's take-backs, but...somehow anxiety is clouding his thoughts so that the very idea of divorce seems far fetched. What if she's one of those people that doesn't believe in divorce? What if he's fallen into a reality game show? She seems to beautiful to be a normal human being. Is this some sort of set up? He rubs his chin and tries not to think too much.]

That's nice. [Danute has the musical skills of a toddler playing on one of the toy musical toys that annoy people instead of creating some sort of brilliant sound.

Is that what led to this? Finding someone who had an ability she could not grasp no matter how hard she tried ...]

I just graduated, about a week ago. [Which meant she was officially Dr. Simonis, but that title seemed unwieldy without a job or any real accomplishments behind it.] Doctorate of Science. Most of my work so far has been on biodiversity of environmental systems.

Oh, that's excellent! [Biodiversity of...what? Either way, his mother will be thrilled! Both of her children married to doctors!] I don't know what that means, but it does sound interesting. [No it doesn't, but that's okay. She found it interesting enough to get a doctorate in it. There must be something interesting there.]

I-- I mean, you can come to one of my shows if you'd like. But I'm sure it's not half as stimulating as your... [what do doctors do? Oh dear, she's probably a professor, someone's teacher. Someone really clever. What do clever professors do?] conferences?

They can be awfully boring. I'd like too see one of your shows. Regardless of what happens with all of this. [She motions with her newly ringed hand.

What would her aunt say when - if - she told her? Finally?]

Oh. [He smiles and looks down at the floor. Yeah, that'll be cool!] Great. I'd be happy to see you there.

[He thinks for a while, trying to consider the best way to go. But all of his thoughts chase themselves around his head and he can't sort them out.]
