Slow times were the worst times. Amata wandered from rack of clothing to rack of clothing, straightening the jackets that were already straight and adjusting things that did not need adjusting. There was still an hour before she was able to clock out and go home and finish her project for tomorrow morning's class...

Perhaps she could convince her manager to let her go early, since there was no one around.

Except ... oh, there was a person~ Amata put on her bright, please-talk-to-me-I-am-helpful smile and walked over to the woman. "Can I help you with anything?"

It was about that time of the year when ambitious college students applied for summer internships. Callie was one of them! Interview time was around the corner, which meant she needed the right clothes for them. Shopping was obviously the proper solution to that particular problem of hers.

Callie mostly frequented other stores for more casual clothes, and this particular department store wasn't one she usually went to. When a salesperson approached her, she laughed and smiled. "Yeah, if you could point the way to where your more... formal stuff is, that'd be great. I need new clothes for an interview."

Oh, this could be interesting~

"Formal clothes that would be appropriate for an interview is over this way," Amata said and started to walk in the direction of their nice, conservative clothing section. It was a bit boring for her personal tastes, but even she had to admit that most interviews did not include a section on being how to dress. "What sort of interview are you planning for?"

Callie followed, keeping her eye out for any cute clothes that might be on that way--like that pale yellow skirt! No, no, she was here for interview clothes only. Interview clothes only.

"A summer internship! I'm hoping to work at some research lab somewhere. Bonus if it's at school but I'm not too picky." While most labs had casual dress codes, especially if you're just a grunt tech, Callie knew that she still had to dress up for an interview.

Science and internship. "What sort of research are you interested in?" The fashion of the science world was white lab coats, as far as Amata knew. Computer science could be every dork stereotype on television, from outdated glasses and shirts that had so much starch they might as well be cardboard. "What school are you going to?"

College. Amata was entirely aware of the issues on spending money while in college, much to her infinite dismay. The best route for this was to go classic and try to spice it up with accessories - it wasn't the route her manager preferred, who viewed pushing trendy as the best option because that was the one that would bring people back for the next trendy style and spend more money.

"Uh, nothing in particular, really. Just something I can get experience in." What really mattered was something that'd look good on her resume, but what she was really interested in was genetic engineering whether it was on things like vegetables or something else. "Oh, I just go to the local university." They gave her almost a full ride, and when she was going out of state, that was a bonus.

Scanning the racks of clothes, she said, "I was hoping to get either a nice pair of slacks or a pencil skirt. Maybe a new blouse, but that's not necessary."

Hm. Generic was best, then. "Both are a good idea. Go with the classics, and you can wear them time and time again without worrying they'll go out of style." Amata eyed the girl's outfit, trying to get an idea of the style. "Do you wear skirts often?"

Callie came wearing casual, comfortable clothes she could easily slip out of to try clothes on: jeans, a comfortable but cute peasant top, sneakers.

"Yeah, that was the plan." she said, nodding. "I'm not a rich college student by any means." Repeatability was a goal for this venture. An outfit she could wear to most of her interviews for the price of one.

"I'm no stranger to skirts! I'm comfortable in them." She wore them whenever she went out for a night on the town with her friends. She could've gotten drunk off her freedom her freshman year of college.

"Then a pencil skirt would be a good buy. It pairs well with simple tops, cardigans, sweaters, and fancier jackets." They also made for an attractive silhouette on the right figures, and Amata determined she had one that was, if not ideal, by no means terrible for it.

Well, she didn't have a fancy jacket, but she had most of the other things! Callie shrugged. "Sounds good! I'll go with a pencil skirt." Going through the rack, she picked out her size. Of course, she would try it out first to see how it fit against her figure, but she'd still try to get a pencil skirt.

"Got any more advice?" Callie was comfortable in her style, but it wouldn't hear to see how other people would change it up.

"For interviews?" Amata hummed under her breath and looked around the section they were in. "People say to play it safe. Black, navy, and whites. Conservative, not sexy."

Callie laughed. "No, no, I would never try sexy for an interview." She didn't want to fuck her way into a job. She liked to think she had some morals. "Not that business wear can't be! But yeah, not to an interview."

She pressed her lips together in thought. "I'll probably go for navy instead of black." That ought to be a little different. Not much but a little.

"It's amazing how many people wouldn't think twice in doing so, just because it's how they typically dress." Amata had yet to do interviews herself, but she had seen some of the potentials coming in for a position in a retail store and it blew her mind. "In the future, investing in a navy pencil skirt would be a good idea. It allows you some choice when deciding on your outfit, instead of having to relay on the same basic clothing each time."

Callie made a face. "Really?" She knew people could be dumb but not that dumb. "You're supposed to dress to impress, not to-- ugh."

Nodding, she said, "Yeah, gotcha. Thanks!" It wasn't some new concept to her, but she appreciated when salespeople were trying to be helpful and not condescending. "I'm going to go try this on." She held up the skirt she picked out. "Thanks for the help again!"
