Yes. Do you remember how we got to this point?

[Both of them have a certain integrity they wouldn't compromise very easily. It is very alarming. There is a very forced calm in her voice and in her posture. Her right hand is closed into a fist.]

What have we done?

[thorson]

No I do not.

[Ullr rolls out of bed and lightly onto his feet. On his left hand is an unfamiliar weight; he takes off the ring.] This is not something I have worn in many years. [He examines the metal work carefully, turning it over in his hand against the light.] This is newly made. It has none of the wear of any of mine.

[lunarbow]

Yes, for me as well. [She does not take her left hand out from under the sheets, however. It is a symbol of a lack of awareness, of control.]

I imagine either or both of us had a hand in this last night for whatever reason. At least we still had some semblance of taste even while unaware.

[thorson]

[Ull is rubbing his cheek and looking away, but he smiles anyway, briefly.] Truth be told, I cannot even think of a situation where either of us would do such a thing.

[Ullr looks around, looks back at the ring. He puts it on a surface and looks away.] I may go for a walk. I would like some time to consider this matter. I will not if you would like me to stay here.

[lunarbow]

It would be nice if we could solve this mystery.

[she shakes her head.] No, go if you wish. I am not your keeper, and time alone may he required.

[thorson]

Yes, truly.

[Ull nods and puts his hand on her shoulder for the briefest of moments. Then he turns and leaves Iris is probably pretty familiar with her partners leaving by now.]

[When he is gone, Iris looks at the ring on her left ring finger before she removes it and places it next where Ullr set his down. She freshens up and waits for him to come back, if he'll come back.]

[Ullr has taken a long walk around the woods and up a mountain path a little way, just to look at the scenery. It's supposed to clear his head, but the quiet only ends up pushing more thoughts in. He comes back after perhaps an hour, the ring deep in a pocket, and sits at the kitchen table, staring down at the wood. It has become very difficult to know what to say or do, so he says nothing, and does nothing.]

[Iris has done her own thinking, but this is not a problem you solve on your own. When she sees the position Ullr is in, she takes a seat from across from him. Her hands are folded on the table, and she tries to give him a small smile.]

It's not the end of the world. It's only a matter to see how official we made this, if at all.

[thorson]

Yes, that's true. [Even what is official to humans should not matter to them. After all, they are not human; what need have they to be registered as married, to follow human regulations? He reaches out and squeezes her hand.] It would be easy enough to whatever we want to do. Separation, should it be official, getting rid of the rings, if it is not. Even...staying, for a while. It all comes down to choice, in the end.
